Who is Mungo?
What is he listing?
The answers to these questions can be sought within this eclectic collection of sounds compiled by three (mis)influenced jazz wannabes who call Sussex County NJ home. A trio that spends their summers swimming in the seas of backwoods wookdom, diving into the exotic sounds of music too sophisticated for their uneducated brains to handle, and too honest for the public to enjoy. These sounds and scenes have all come together in their big bad debut: Local Hero.
Who is our local hero?
Our story begins in Carbondale Colorado on June 21st 2016 the morning after the summer solstice (a Tuesday morning) when our hero 7-11 clerk comes to a crossroads. Unhappy with the life he is leading he traces most of his troubles to his bitch ass girlfriend. He decides it's time to break it off and get acquainted with some other fine young thang. To his surprise the fine young thang of his dreams happens to be on the same bus he takes home from his bitch ass ex's house. He breaks the ice which her, but it becomes clear over the course of the week that she is playing hard to get. Bitches. By the time the weekend rolls around this fine young thang has our hero at his wits end. While working the late shift Saturday night into Sunday morning he contemplates throwing this life away and starting anew out east. These thoughts are escalated when the bassist from his old band Nick Risotto comes in and tries to steal a pack of L&M Blues and 3 grape white owls. This sends our hero over the edge, and in a fit of blind rage he sets fire to a discharged propane tank and razes the whole station. When the fire settles our hero makes it out alive with but a twisted ankle, however Nick is nowhere to be found in the rubble. Our hero knows that his time is now. He drives east putting his old life behind him. Now on the run, he finds himself in Stillwater NJ, a town beyond the boundaries of police patrol. He is accepted by the townspeople, though his mysterious habits, his evasion of social interaction, and his unnaturally large nose eventually dishevel them. The townspeople’s efforts to reach out to him intimidate him and he flees yet again, this time to Baltimore Maryland. As soon as he arrives in his new home, the Feds are immediately on his ass. They know something’s up, and our hero begins to feel the pressure of a convict on the run. He begins to lose his mind as the Feds start becoming aware of his true identity, and he feels the need to run for his life now. Before they book him, he flees once more to a cave in the woods, where he begins a life of isolation off the grid. He is running out of options loosing his sanity, trying to figure out what went wrong and what his next move is. A month goes by and our hero is now a man of the woods. He spends most of his time thinking of the late Nick Risotto. Though he has come to terms with the fact that he murdered him in June, he still is irked by his flakey bullshit. He uses this hatred as his inner fire, and his motivation for survival. And he manages to survive alone in the wilderness until the change of season. As the fall equinox comes upon the deciduous forests of Maryland, our hero realizes he cannot dish out this winter alone. He reluctantly decides to contact his only connection from his old life left: his bitch ass ex girlfriend. He pleas with her to give him back his red shirt so he can survive the winter, and because he realized she totally fuckin boned it from him after the summer solstice. She responds and says stop, and when she says stop he says, well he demands her to send it. He is left waiting for a reply from her as fall commences. And as our hero is left waiting for his fate to be sealed, the rest of us will be left on the edge of our seats as well. Waiting just for what's to come next from this trio from Mason Ave USA.
